JK Election Commission Revises Third-Phase Polling Schedule

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has revised the schedule for the third phase of the elections, postponing polling in Poonch and Sudhanoti districts.

Polling for 11 seats across four districts of the Poonch division had earlier been scheduled for August 10. Under the revised plan, the third phase will now be held in Bagh and Haveli districts.

The first two phases were conducted on July 27 and August 2 in the Mirpur and Muzaffarabad divisions.

PML-N Leads in Initial Results

The PML-N is in a strong position to form the AJK government after Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah claimed that the party had secured a simple majority.

The second phase covered 21 constituencies, including nine seats in Muzaffarabad Division and 12 seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan.

Unofficial and unconfirmed results showed the PML-N winning 15 seats, while the PPP secured six.

In the first phase, the PML-N won nine constituencies, compared with four secured by the PPP, according to provisional results.

PPP Raises Rigging Allegations

The PPP has alleged irregularities and violence during both phases of the elections.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari criticised the electoral process, claiming the polls were not free or fair and describing them as “rigged” elections.

The PML-N rejected the allegations, with Rana Sanaullah calling on the PPP to submit evidence of electoral irregularities to the election commission.

He also accused the PPP of raising allegations of rigging without providing evidence and said political claims should be supported by concrete proof.
