KARACHI: Three Pakistan Rangers personnel were martyred and four others sustained injuries after militants belonging to the India-backed Jamaat-ul-Ahrar launched a coordinated assault on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to the military’s media wing, the attackers triggered an explosion at the camp’s main entrance before attempting to penetrate its security perimeter.
The Rangers personnel mounted a swift and effective response, foiling the attack by killing three militants and capturing another, an injured Afghan national, the ISPR said.
The military’s media wing identified the attackers as Khwarij affiliated with the India-backed Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, describing the assault as a “cowardly terrorist attack” orchestrated by an Indian proxy outfit.
Following the operation, security forces launched sanitisation operations in the surrounding area to clear the vicinity of any remaining militants.
According to the ISPR, security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue their nationwide counterterrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative with full determination to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism.
“Pakistan shall undertake retribution operations against the perpetrators of this attack to avenge the martyrdom of its soldiers,” the statement added.
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed profound sorrow over the martyrdom of the Rangers personnel and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He said the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers further strengthened the nation’s unwavering resolve to defend Pakistan at all costs.
The attack was initially reported near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6, where heavy gunfire and a powerful explosion prompted an immediate response from police and other law enforcement agencies.
Authorities sealed roads connecting Mosmiyat Chowrangi with Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6, Kamran Chowrangi and Chaman Iqbal Colony as security forces carried out clearance operations.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the Sindh Inspector General of Police and the Karachi Additional Inspector General to submit a comprehensive report on the incident. Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar also sought an immediate report from the Karachi AIG.
