Flour prices surge by up to Rs100 in major cities

LAHORE: Flour prices rose in several parts of Pakistan during the past week, with the cost of a 20-kilogram flour bag increasing by up to Rs100 in some cities, according to the latest figures released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The biggest weekly increase was recorded in Karachi and Larkana, where the price of a 20kg flour bag climbed by Rs100, reaching Rs3,000 and Rs2,600, respectively.

According to the PBS, Islamabad remained the costliest city for flour, with a 20kg bag selling for as much as Rs3,133. Prices were also high in Peshawar at Rs3,100 and Rawalpindi at Rs3,093.

In other cities, flour was priced at Rs2,960 in Bahawalpur and Rs2,950 in Bannu. Consumers paid Rs2,800 for a 20kg bag in Hyderabad, Multan, Sialkot and Gujranwala, while prices stood at Rs2,793 in Sargodha and Rs2,750 in Quetta.

The weekly report also showed a Rs60 increase in Sukkur, where the price reached Rs2,560, while Bannu recorded a Rs50 rise to Rs2,950.

Among the major urban centres, Lahore and Faisalabad continued to offer comparatively lower flour prices, with a 20kg bag available for Rs2,300 and Rs2,200, respectively.Rs100 in major cities
