August Electricity Bills May Shock Consumers Again
LESCO’s tariff adjustment may lead to higher August electricity bills for consumers. Stay informed on the latest updates.
LAHORE: Electricity consumers under the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) may face another increase in power bills as the utility has approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking approval to recover Rs2.35 billion through the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism.

The request relates to the April-June period and, if approved, could add to the electricity costs of millions of consumers across LESCO’s service area.
LESCO attributed the proposed adjustment to several factors, including lower electricity sales, rising capacity payments, increased fuel and transmission costs, financial impacts linked to net-metering consumers, and other operational expenses.
The company stated that a decline in electricity consumption has increased the cost of supplying each unit, as fixed expenses remain largely unchanged despite reduced demand.
According to official documents, residential electricity consumption decreased by 8% compared with the same period last year, while commercial usage dropped by 7%. Overall power consumption across the LESCO network declined by around 4%.
LESCO maintains that falling demand has created a revenue gap by increasing per-unit electricity costs, which it now seeks to recover through the quarterly tariff adjustment.
NEPRA will review the petition and conduct an assessment before making a final decision on the proposed increase and the amount, if any, that will be passed on to consumers.
