Sindh govt reverses six-day school week decision

“Education Department plans to increase daily teaching hours by one hour rather than operate schools six days a week.”

KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department has decided to reinstate Saturday as a weekly holiday for all educational institutions across the province after securing approval from the chief secretary.

Under the new arrangement, educational institutions across Sindh will operate from Monday to Friday, restoring a five-day academic week.

To make up for the reduced number of school days, the Education Department has decided to increase daily teaching hours by one hour, ensuring that academic activities continue uninterrupted and the syllabus is completed on time.

Officials said the revised schedule will be implemented in all public and private schools throughout the province.

The decision marks a reversal of the provincial government’s earlier directive issued last month, which required all government and private schools to follow a six-day working week from August 1. The notification had stated that educational institutions under the School Education and Literacy Department would remain open from Monday through Saturday until further notice.

The six-day schedule was introduced shortly after schools resumed classes following the summer vacation, which lasted from June 1 to July 31.
