ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday announced a sharp increase in petroleum prices, raising the rates of petrol, high-speed diesel (HSD), and kerosene oil for the next week.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs13.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs13.80 more per litre. The revised prices came into effect from Saturday and will remain in force until the next review.
Under the new pricing, petrol will now be available at Rs310.71 per litre, up from Rs297.53, while the price of high-speed diesel has risen to Rs323.30 per litre from Rs309.50.
The government also increased the price of kerosene oil by Rs11.19 per litre, taking it to Rs242.33 per litre from the previous Rs231.14.
The revised ex-depot prices will remain effective until further revision by the government.
Petrol is primarily consumed by owners of private vehicles, motorcycles, rickshaws, and other small transport, while high-speed diesel is widely used by heavy transport vehicles, buses, trucks, and the agricultural sector.
The latest increase comes a week after the government had marginally reduced the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs1.97 per litre for the week ending July 10.
